maureen Most people have shopped at factory outlets for designer clothes, shoes and accessories. Factory outlets are able to offer lower prices to the public because they don’t deal with wholesalers, they sell direct from the factory. The designer clothes factory outlets manufacture the clothing for distributers who then sell them to retail stores but they typically make more clothing than is ordered to account for items that fail to pass quality control or to use extra materials. The items that fail to pass quality control are called seconds and may have small flaws that would not be noticed by the average person. Overages in the manufacturing process may be perfect, but were simply left over after the orders were filled.
When buying from a designer clothes factory outlet, check the label on the item. If it failed quality control it will be marked as a second. Seconds are often good quality with tiny flaws and those flaws can save buyers big money. Seconds may be worn for years with the buyer never finding the flaw that made them less than perfect. Factory overruns are usually perfect, but left over after orders were filled so the factory can offer deep discounts on the goods.
Some outlets buy overstocks from retailers who discount the price to reduce their inventory. These are not factory outlets since they buy the goods from a third party rather than the source. While these outlets often have discounted prices on designer clothes, they are usually from the previous season rather than the newest designer fashions. As a rule designer clothes factory outlets have the latest fashions at the same time as department stores and other retailers. The internet has made it possible for factory outlets to offer even better prices on designer clothing since they don’t require a sales area for the public.
In some cases factory outlets may be required to remove the designer labels from the clothing they sell to protect retail sales. Since manufacturers make their profits from selling to distributors and retailers, it is in their best interest not to directly compete with their customers. If you can live without a label that no one is going to see, designer clothes factory outlets are a great place to find bargains. If you want the look rather than the label, factory outlets offer the same great quality designer clothes without the designer price tag.
